The exam
What is YKS?
YKS is the Yükseköğretim Kurumları Sınavı (Higher Education Institutions Examination), a university entrance exam (Turkey). Administered by the ÖSYM measurement centre in stages: a basic proficiency test in Turkish, mathematics, science and social sciences; a field proficiency test in the candidate's chosen area such as mathematics, science, or literature and social sciences; and a foreign language test for language programmes. All questions are multiple-choice with a penalty for wrong answers. Scores combine with secondary school grades to produce placement scores for each programme type.
Who takes it: Secondary school graduates in Turkey applying to universities, where placement depends on this centrally administered examination and school grades.

How to prepare
Studying for YKS, step by step
01
Prioritise
The basic proficiency test is a prerequisite for all placements, so Turkish and mathematics fundamentals deserve attention even for science-track candidates.
02
Practise
Wrong answers reduce the score, so practise estimating your confidence and leaving questions where you cannot eliminate any options.
03
Avoid the traps
Solve the official past papers from ÖSYM under timed conditions; the question style is distinctive and differs from school examinations.
04
Ask, then watch
Type or say a topic in your own words; the tutor plans a storyboard, one picture per idea, and explains it step by step.
05
Interrupt and check
Say "wait, why?" mid-explanation and it answers on the picture; a checkpoint question ends every lesson.
06
Your papers
Upload past papers and notes so the practice follows the exam, and use Tests for graded tests.
Ask it anything
Questions YKS students ask
- Explain paragraph questions and how to find the main idea.
- Teach me trigonometry problems for the AYT mathematics test.

Questions
Asked, Answered
Can LetMeTeach help me prepare for YKS?
Yes. Ask any topic from the YKS syllabus and the tutor plans a lesson pitched to the exam, explains it out loud with live visuals, stops when you interrupt, and asks a checkpoint question. The basic proficiency test is a prerequisite for all placements, so Turkish and mathematics fundamentals deserve attention even for science-track candidates.
Can I use my own YKS past papers and notes?
Yes. Upload PDFs and images, such as photos of class notes or a past paper, up to 3 files per session and 10 MB each, and the tutor grounds the session in them. The Tests section adds tests from a question bank and AI tests, graded on the server.
Does it teach in the language I study YKS in?
LetMeTeach teaches in 26 languages (including Turkish and English) and plans the lesson in the language you choose rather than translating it. The Free plan includes 7 hours a month with no card.
