The exam
What is Abitur?
Abitur is the Allgemeine Hochschulreife (Abitur), a school leaving exam (Germany and German schools abroad). Administered by each federal state, so details vary, but the pattern is consistent: continuous assessment over the final qualification phase combines with final examinations in a set of subjects, some written and at least one oral. Students choose advanced courses that carry more weight. Many states draw on centrally set examination tasks. The final grade blends coursework and examination results and is used for university admission, including restricted-entry programmes.
Who takes it: Students completing the Gymnasium or equivalent upper secondary track in Germany, who need it for admission to German universities and many abroad.

How to prepare
Studying for Abitur, step by step
01
Prioritise
Coursework grades from the qualification phase count substantially, so steady performance over two years matters as much as the final examinations.
02
Practise
Written tasks reward structured argument and the use of subject-specific methods, such as source analysis in history or interpretation in German.
03
Avoid the traps
Prepare the oral examination by explaining topics aloud to someone else; the examiners probe reasoning and connections rather than recall.
04
Ask, then watch
Type or say a topic in your own words; the tutor plans a storyboard, one picture per idea, and explains it step by step.
05
Interrupt and check
Say "wait, why?" mid-explanation and it answers on the picture; a checkpoint question ends every lesson.
06
Your papers
Upload past papers and notes so the practice follows the exam, and use Tests for graded tests.

Questions
Asked, Answered
Can LetMeTeach help me prepare for Abitur?
Yes. Ask any topic from the Abitur syllabus and the tutor plans a lesson pitched to the exam, explains it out loud with live visuals, stops when you interrupt, and asks a checkpoint question. Coursework grades from the qualification phase count substantially, so steady performance over two years matters as much as the final examinations.
Can I use my own Abitur past papers and notes?
Yes. Upload PDFs and images, such as photos of class notes or a past paper, up to 3 files per session and 10 MB each, and the tutor grounds the session in them. The Tests section adds tests from a question bank and AI tests, graded on the server.
Does it teach in the language I study Abitur in?
LetMeTeach teaches in 26 languages (including German and English) and plans the lesson in the language you choose rather than translating it. The Free plan includes 7 hours a month with no card.
