The subject

What is Sociology?

Sociology is the study of society: how groups, institutions, cultures and inequalities shape the lives of individuals, and how individuals in turn shape society. Studying it means learning the main theoretical perspectives, research methods, and topics such as family, education, religion, crime, social class, gender and globalisation. It asks you to question what seems natural, to read evidence carefully and to write arguments that weigh competing explanations.

Where it is studied: Senior secondary sociology on several boards, undergraduate sociology and social science degrees and civil service optional papers.

Why pictures

Why Sociology is taught visually

Social theory is easier to grasp when mapped: a diagram comparing functionalist, Marxist and interactionist views of an institution, a social stratification pyramid, a flow of socialisation agents, a chart of a survey's results, a concept map of causes of crime. A drawn comparison grid organises an essay.

The tutor draws the picture as it speaks, one idea at a time, and answers your doubt on the same picture when you interrupt.

Questions

Asked, Answered

How does a visual teacher help with a reading-based subject like sociology?

By drawing the structure of ideas: a grid comparing perspectives, a concept map of causes, a chart of findings. The tutor explains each theory aloud while building the diagram, so you remember how the arguments relate to each other.

Can it help me plan sociology essays?

Yes. Ask it to teach an essay question and it lays out the argument on the board with theory, evidence, evaluation and conclusion, then asks a checkpoint question to make you apply it. You can request a different structure if you prefer.

Can I upload my readings and notes?

Upload PDFs or photos of chapters, notes and past papers and the tutor teaches from them in your chosen language. The Tests section provides AI-made tests and graded questions to check that you remember the studies and concepts.
