The exam
What is IGCSE?
IGCSE is the International General Certificate of Secondary Education, a school board exam (International schools worldwide, including India, the Middle East and Southeast Asia). Offered chiefly by Cambridge International and Pearson Edexcel, with each subject examined through externally marked written papers, sometimes with practical, coursework or oral components. Many subjects have core and extended tiers that cap or extend the grades available. Papers combine short structured questions, data handling and extended writing. Students usually sit a broad spread of subjects, and results are accepted by schools and universities internationally.
Who takes it: Students aged around fourteen to sixteen in international and private schools who want a globally recognised secondary qualification before A Levels, IB or equivalent.
What it tests
IGCSE subjects and sections
- English (First or Second Language)
- Mathematics
- Physics
- Chemistry
- Biology
- Combined Science
- History
- Geography
Ask any topic from any of these and the tutor pitches the lesson to the exam, with the terms and the depth it expects.
How to prepare
Studying for IGCSE, step by step
01
Prioritise
Choose the extended tier if you want the higher grades, but only after confirming you can handle the harder material with time to spare.
02
Practise
Past papers with the official mark schemes are the main resource; examiners reward specific keywords and complete method, not creative phrasing.
03
Avoid the traps
Practical and coursework components are easy to underestimate; treat each as a mini-project with its own deadline and checklist.
04
Ask, then watch
Type or say a topic in your own words; the tutor plans a storyboard, one picture per idea, and explains it step by step.
05
Interrupt and check
Say "wait, why?" mid-explanation and it answers on the picture; a checkpoint question ends every lesson.
06
Your papers
Upload past papers and notes so the practice follows the exam, and use Tests for graded tests.

Questions
Asked, Answered
Can LetMeTeach help me prepare for IGCSE?
Yes. Ask any topic from the IGCSE syllabus and the tutor plans a lesson pitched to the exam, explains it out loud with live visuals, stops when you interrupt, and asks a checkpoint question. Choose the extended tier if you want the higher grades, but only after confirming you can handle the harder material with time to spare.
Can I use my own IGCSE past papers and notes?
Yes. Upload PDFs and images, such as photos of class notes or a past paper, up to 3 files per session and 10 MB each, and the tutor grounds the session in them. The Tests section adds tests from a question bank and AI tests, graded on the server.
Does it teach in the language I study IGCSE in?
LetMeTeach teaches in 26 languages (including English, Arabic, Hindi and Mandarin) and plans the lesson in the language you choose rather than translating it. The Free plan includes 7 hours a month with no card.
